Yesterday, Genevieve “G” Bernatchez defended her thesis on “The consumptive and nonconsumptive effects of the invasive green crab (Carcinus maenas) on macroinfaunal diversity, abundance and ecosystem functioning in a New England salt marsh”. Her work demonstrated that species interactions and their cascading effects can depend on the environmental conditions in which they are found; highlighting the importance of examining species interactions across time and space. Genevieve did an excellent job of explaining A LOT of complex data that her work has generated.
Genevieve will be joining NOAA in the fall, bringing her scientific expertise to the Connecticut branch as a lab assistant.
Congrats G! You’re presence will be greatly missed here at the MSC!
